Japanese and Asian unions representing long-line tuna fishing operators have agreed to suspend some operations to avoid losses caused by soaring fuel prices.

The decision by the Japanese union and its Chinese, South Korean and Taiwanese counterparts will eventually affect about 30 percent of the around 1,200 fishing boats operating around the world,
