Rollicking regattas on a lake now vanished

Driving past Lake George these days, when there might be only a sliver of water sparkling in the distance, it’s difficult to believe it once hosted sailing regattas. More than that, it was where the Canberra Yacht Club was born.
As these photographs from the new book From Lake George to Lake Burley Griffin: Canberra’s Pioneer Sailors, testify, the local landmark has a colourful sailing history.
The book, by local author Alan Foskett, captures the first decade of the club’s existence from 1959 to 1969. It was published with the assistance of a $6000 grant from the ACT Heritage Council and designed by Robin Gugler.
