A Northern Territory scientist says new DNA research on river sharks will hopefully help the species survive.
The river shark has been classified as an endangered species and is found in estuaries across northern Australia.
Dr Louise McMahon from the Bioscience North Australia Organisation at Charles Darwin University has been able to use DNA to clarify different species of the shark, which she says will make it easier to ensure they are protected.
