Men fined $87,000 for sea hoax

Two Karratha men have been fined more than $87,000 for triggering a massive sea search in December after falsely convincing emergency services that they were on a boat sinking off Dampier.
Emergency services condemned the men’s drunken prank and applauded Karratha Magistrate Elaine Campione’s order, saying it sent a clear message that such foolhardy actions would not be tolerated.
