Nearly 350 rescued near Italian island

The Italian coastguard have rescued nearly 350 boat people near the Mediterranean island of Lampedusa, a spokesman says.
The operation was carried out a day after a boat carrying 355 Eritreans arrived on the island.
“There were 349 people, including 42 women, of whom one was pregnant” in the latest arrival, a coastguard spokesman said.
