Fears for livelihoods as diesel drives up fish prices

Posted on 21/06/2008

The soaring price of diesel is driving WA fishermen to the wall and threatening to increase the already hefty price of seafood for the consumer.

Kimberley Professional Fishermen’s Association president Alan Fraser believes WA fishermen would start going out of business if the price of diesel continues to rise. “Businesses will fold, that’s for sure,” he said.

Mr Fraser said the decreased amount of fish caught would translate into higher fresh fish prices for WA consumers.
