Island homecoming for Aussie Olympic sailors

Posted on 24/08/2008

Australia’s Olympic sailors will travel to their training base of Hamilton Island after arriving home from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games for a sailing community homecoming.

The sailors are due to arrive in Sydney with the entire Australian Olympic Team on Tuesday morning and will fly to Hamilton Island on Wednesday, where Audi Hamilton Island Race Week began today.

‘As Hamilton Island was the team’s principle Australian training venue in the lead-up to the Olympic Games and so many of the Australian sailing fraternity are gathered there for Race Week, it makes an ideal place to welcome the team home,’ said Yachting Australia CEO Phil Jones.
