Greenpeace says two of its activists have been charged by Japanese prosecutors for stealing whale meat in a bid to uncover alleged corruption in Japan’s controversial whaling program.

The Aomori Prosecutors’ Office today indicted Junichi Sato, 31, and Toru Suzuki, 41, who are both still in custody, Greenpeace said.

Officials at the prosecutor’s office declined to comment on the matter. Police arrested the pair last month on suspicion of stealing whale meat in April.
